How this works (the honest bit).
This rests on a soft figure and we would rather say so. Kissing frequency is self-reported, culturally variable and almost certainly under-counted, and the commonly cited averages sit between one and three kisses a day. We assume two, lasting about five seconds each. Because a kiss is brief, the number at the top is small - around a million people - and it moves a great deal between one second and the next. Treat this one as an illustration of a rate rather than a measurement of anything. Every figure on this page is a model built from population data, each country's local clock and the assumptions above. It is an estimate, it moves every second, and at least one of them is certainly true.
